To pick up on something The Gonz said about players thinking ahead. That was something I always tried to instill into my youth team, maybe not two moves ahead but at least know what they are going to do with the ball once they get it before they get it, and to have a contingency. Also applied to players who were possibly second in the chain.
What I am saying is it isn't so hard to learn and it should be basic to their training, look receive and execute. Not look receive stop look then execute. Or look receive execute move blah blah. We see it too often , especially at West Ham where a quick accurate pass is missed cause they have to stop and look first. A. Because they aren't aware of their surroundings or B. Others have been static and not giving options.
Nice to see Rice having a quick look around before the ball reaches him. His Captain takes a lot in with a glance and will be "negative" when nothing is on,passing backwards only when a forward pass would incur too high a risk of losing possession.
