The "Ghost" Game.

Postby terrya1965 » Thu Oct 11, 2018 11:34 am

Phil Parkes and Trevor Brooking talking about the game in the Cup Winners Cup v Castilla in October 1981.West Ham fans were banned for causing trouble in the away tie in which we lost 3-1.They are talking about that game has England are going to play their game with Croatia behind closed doors.

We ended up winning the Home tie 5-1(6-4 on agg).David Cross netting a Hat-trick.I was at Vauxhall Holiday Camp in Great Yarmouth and listened to it on the Radio in the Caravan.

Remember the Spanish getting the hump at being pissed on from the upper tier. Some people just can't take a joke. :o

For the avoidance of doubt, did you listen to the game whilst at Great Yarmouth or the Brooking/Parkes interview???

A cracking finish by Geoff Pike for the 1st goal. An unsung hero for me, scoring something like 41 goals in all competitions in 372 games.

According to his Linkedin page, he currently manages a team of 8 National coach developers who are part of the Elite delivery team. I also lead on the development of the UEFA A licence, tutor on the UEFA Pro licence and manage a number of other projects within the FA.

It was at Upton Park you numpty! ;)

I was standing outside the Chicken Run with quite a few others singing Bubbles and shouting our support.

It was weird, you could hear everything the players and staff were shouting.

Given the ethnicity of Green Street even in those days, I suppose it could feasibly be called an away game. :?
