Does Rice play too safe?

Post by 21212 » Sun Dec 23, 2018 9:46 am

I have already stated on here that yesterday when we went to 2 in midfield, he carried on playing that safe, unexposed game 5 yards in front of the center halves leaving Snodgrass to cover the whole of midfield.
Is Rice protecting his reputation by not leaving his comfort zone? Is he putting his reputation in front of the teams requirements?

3 in midfield allows one of them to make runs in and around the box. I prefer that because they are seldom marked coming late. We have let shit loads of goals in when other teams square the ball across the area for an oncoming midfield player. I'm not a fan of playing 2 in the middle unless them 2 are top notch and have 90 min engines. Like Kante for Chelsea.

Explain that comment.
Do not come on here as one of those shock posters.
I want you to explain why the OP deserved such a inflammatory reply.

This thread is as desperate as Arnie trying to convince all at West Ham that he loves the club

‘‘Twas a cry of astonishment that the thread had been in existence for almost a week and you hadn’t had the barrel full of abuse that you usually get .

I’m bored with the Arnautovic shit quite frankly and if you had read between the lines you may have twigged what it was aimed at .

Don’t be so defensive .

The first paragraph is reasonable comment after that you could have speculated with many different questions, I assume you considered these two controversial!
We all know he is not the finished article and in particular his distibution is the area for him to concentrate and it's why you can't start comparing him with Bobby at the moment.
As I've said before, it is important that he learns from Noble as his distribution is sublime at times which he has demonstrated quite often in recent games and why I think we started to become more successful when he was playing again.
Rice has to learn how to hold the ball while he assesses where to play the ball to best advantage.

I like his passing ability. It's generally quick and usually advances the attack.

No "worldy" yet, but he reads the game brilliantly and will make those killer passes when/ if he is able, by clever movement, to gain that extra yard of space as Noble does.
