I think what has made the difference is MP now knows what our central midfield players are capable of and is playing to there strengths or weaknesses whatever you want to call it .andyginbrasil wrote: ↑Sun Jan 13, 2019 12:37 pmAnd a lot of that is thanks to the defensive midfield display.....We are always going to let goals in its in our nature, but to walk away from the first half of the season having just a -2 goal difference ( at the same stage last season it was -16 ) there is optimism that our defense has greatly improved.

It was the FIRST time Arsenal hadn`t scored since the opening day of the season v City. For that reason alone the team have to be congratulated. The thing is,we wasn`t actually conservative in the way we played. We went for it.
They made a slight error for that Lacazette chance but I thought they were pretty solid. Balbuena makes a big difference but that was the best I have seen Oggy and Diop play together. Arsenal have scored in their last 20 matches so to restrict them to one decent shot on target and one just round the post was admirable given Lacazette and especially Aubameyang's goal scoring record.Whiskyman wrote: ↑Sun Jan 13, 2019 12:37 amI didn't. I'm assuming you are referring to the effort Fabianski saved early doors. Of course our defence isn't perfect but considering today we were up against one of the best strikers in Europe I think our defence proved more than adequate. Of course there is always room for improvement but anyone saying Arsenal found it easy to get through our defence today watched a different game to the one I saw. Including the first 15 minutes.
And FFS if a goalie having a relatively quiet afternoon isn't an indication of a defence being in relative control of a situation I don't know what is. I think it's only the 4th clean sheet we've kept, Chelsea, Newcastle & Fulham being the others, and I will stand by my comment it was our best defensive performance of the season. Particularly considering the opposition.
That said, I thought Iwobi and Guendouzzi were their best players
This is good though....innit .... fam !
