We're definitely still a striker short, with only really Haller, Hernandez and at a push Antonio as our front men who can play down the middle.

I do wonder if they let Obiang go that they will turn to Cullen, I think he's about ready for the step up to a bit part role.
The want to be escapea and Antonio are not one up front strikers, looks like Haller fits the role, but we can't rely on one player to deliver for the season.

Today's game against the money team showed we need a lot more firing power up front

If we want to press on we need to replace players who leave with better ones. Even those who have been squad fillers for the past year or so.

Also players under 28 years old. That way we get a decent sell on price and keep building. Diop, Rice, Anderson, Fornals, Lanzini and Haller have decent sell on values. Paying Chico 140 week and costing 18 million almost 30 is " dead money "
The twins are realizing if they pay the extra dough for young improving talents their sell on will maintain the balance of the squad.

I think it's more the case that we now have a Director of Football who appreciates the same poin that you';ve made about values. Hopefully the days of bringing in expensive but over hyped "name" players like Joe Hart are behind us.

It's a fair point, but if we don't give the kids a chance then we won't get another Declan

Don't agree. Rice got his chance because he is good enough. It was obvious at 18 that the kid had genuine talent. So he was given his chance and has proved everyone right. Cullen has been out on loan for the past 2 or 3 seasons and still hasn't really made a massive impact. Simply putting him in the first team won't transform him into the next Declan Rice.

Imo cream usually rises to the top and above average young players will get their chance early, just as DR did.

Buzzing we got this done. Our first proper striker since Ashton? :?: :?

Should get plenty of goals with Anderson, Lanzini, Fornals and Wilshere behind him.

Declan was given the opportunity due to the injuries we sustained (Sanchez was Pelle's 1st choice for DM), but he'd been training with the 1st team squad and learning from them. Some players need a couple of seasons out on loan before their ready to be part of the squad.

You could say he is Rice pudding then. :)
