He's a Defender.

After a few eye catching bursts, when playing alongside Noble in a deep role, and I believe scoring Slaven's first goal at The Emirates, the manager turned to him after our goals started to dry up and gave him a more attacking role. Like he wanted Antonio to be a Wing Back but he persevered for longer. Bad Management...I cant recall a decent creative pass from him in two years or a goal scored other than from a corner/free kick. His inability to get back from an attacking foray, usually because his enthusiasm leads him to end up on his arse, has resulted in Noble spreading himself too thinly to the detriment of his performance.

I hope Moyes get's it soon.

Mike's right.
Once again this is as much about West Ham's technical "experts" fucking up the utilisation of a player in an alien position.
How many more times will we see this happen?
The club and it's footballing specialists seem to have issues plugging square pegs into square holes.

It doesn't excuse Kouyate's woeful lethargy but so many of the root causes (imo) are due to piss-poor mis-management strategically.
How many of our line-ups can you honestly say that "this player is in his preferred position"?
We seem to be in a perpetual state of "winging it".

Have to agree there Tone. Good post.
As Geo and others have suggested, we need a director of football that can bring in the right players for purpose, as we seem to keep making the same mistakes. Ayew is a fine example of this. I still don't know what he does??

Its possible. He is not very active on twitter at all, but latest tweets nothing about WHU, all about Senegal and kissing Mane's ass. Like Payet towards the end.

I was his biggest fan when he first joined us... great engine on the fella... tackles, blocks and dangerous runs into the box at times... he was one of the first names on the teamsheat for me... a top player that was badly missed the odd game he didn’t play.
Because of how good he was I have prob defended him in my own mind for too long now but I can’t defend him any more.
Last year he wasn’t as good and this year truly awful.
It like some one has removed his Duracell batteries and replaced them with some second hand ones from the pound shop.
To me it should be simple though.
Do you want to play for us or move.. if us then give him a few games to show he’s back to his old self and if he can’t be that player we signed then get him out pronto.
Mind you being from Africa it might just be that he is really 57 years old and slowing down now

He looked good with Song and Noble behind him, two passers of the ball so all he had to do was run

Then he looked good with Lanzini, payet and noble, 3 passers of the ball, so all he had to do was run and take up room when defending

Now when it's him and Obiang, there is only one passer, Lanzini. So Kouyate is required to help but cannot, and he doesn't even run about anymore.

Kouyate was never the most gifted but he was high energy and scored goals.

Alas both of those qualities seem to have gone so we're not left with an awful lot.

About the only thing he hasn't done yet is put in a transfer request. Can't be good for the others, that are putting in the effort, to see him swanning about and starting every game..
