Do not get into last season syndrome where we end up with him running it down for nothing or doing a Payet.
As for the international situation. English parents, born in England. There should be something inside that means you want to play for England. If there isn't then I'm afraid numbers has a point.
Not a popular viewpoint but if you are only playing at a place as a stepping stone then expect to be treated as purely an asset.
Whilst I agree with the sentiment wouldn't it be correct to say that all professionals to a very large degree see their employer as a stepping stone. Even Cristiano Ronaldo couldn't resist the lure of Real Madrid, and he was playing for the biggest club in England.
The only thing I believe fans are entitled to expect from players is that they show 100% effort and application during their time with their present club. Players are employees and can be expected to move if the offer of more money or better prospects of trophies is presented to them.
Problem with the Rice situation I believe is that if he decides to leave the club will not get anything like his market value as any transfer fee I think will be decided by a tribunal.
If it looks like a cunt, walks like a cunt, and talks like a cunt it's either Boris Johnson or Jeremy Corbyn.
