If he did play maybe he could get a commemorative wig instead of getting the England cap.

Of course he 's done so much more for our game than anyone before him. I think it's a disgrace there's no statue of him holding the World Cup aloft outside Old Trafford.

And he may not look like Bruce Forsyth. But he's a fucking ringer for Shrek. And he talks funny, and I wouldn't trust him to be anywhere near my gran. So stay out of Highgate cemetery you fat scouse tosser.

Not only a statue Whisky, he should be knighted.

You meant neutered, surely ?

If it looks like a cunt, walks like a cunt, and talks like a cunt it's either Boris Johnson or Jeremy Corbyn.

It is a friendly so where is the harm in it. Why would anyone feel so passionate about it any event?

No harm in it, true. But no benefit to anyone either. And doesn't that raise another question ? What is the point of these silly friendlies where players can just as easily get injured as in a match that actually means something. Glorified testimonials imo. I sincerely hope that if any of our players gets called up for a friendly involving ANY country they develop a mystery injury to get out of the bloody thing.

These games are even less relevant now we have UEFA nations league. So to flog some tickets for a Wembley USA clash they bung Wayne Rooney on the bill...I bet he swells the attendance by an extra 900 peeps and those ITV mugs will be all over this...nobody who visits this site will watch it obviously, because we are all sophisticates on here...

Rooney has been a great servant but times move on and this friendly SHOULD be about Southgate trying new players or experimenting with systems not lugging on 33 year old former internationals for Cameos.

I get the charity aspect but why schedule a full international fixture for it? Silly.half the squad would probably fake an injury and pull out.

dorsetdano wrote:According to the Beeb Rooney is going to captain England in one last international versus the USA in November. What a joke, I checked the calendar and it isn't April1. The world has gone mad and Southgate shouldn't bow to this piece of rampant celebrity celebrating/commercialism because it's the USA that we're playing. I thought/hoped that all this celebrity rubbish finished when Beckham finally exited the football scene, but apparently not!

He is playing because it is a charity match and some of the money is going to his foundation, some to the NSPCC. I have no issue with this. I think it is a good thing. Why shouldnt the England team try and give something back for once ?
