Captain Morgan hits a record 17 six's

Post by terrya1965 » Tue Jun 18, 2019 10:33 pm

What a day at Old Trafford.

England hit 397,highest total in this World Cup.

England hit most 6's in one game...25 in total in any World Cup.

Most 6's in a World Cup match..33.

In the last World Cup in 2015,we were most boring at the tournament..250 was a decent score for us.

Enter Eoin Morgan has captain and his changed the whole concept of the English game. His 148 from 71 balls today show what a real leader he is.

Fabulous to watch.

What a change mate...got the Aus,Kiwis and India left to play...lose 2 of those,we could
well miss out on last 4 Quali...
Thought we were looking nailed on for the top 4 at least..

Side point....How Malinga gets away with that Action, has baffled me for 15 years or so now,
but the experts say it's Ok,cant see any real advantage with it anyway.

Got the Aus on tuesday...become a bit of a must win..

Malinga's low, sling shot action is reminiscent of Ray Lindwall.
As long as the elbow doesn't flex or bend beyond the requirements of the law (I think it's 15 degrees, but I might be misremembering that) I'm not sure the angle of the delivery arm matters.

I seem to remember as a kid being told that that the arm had to come up and over the shoulder,
with a straight arm so that basically at some point your hand/arm was pointing at the Sky..
Always assumed was a requirement, not just a technical thing...
But like you say more to do with the Elbow than the actual arm.

Didn't they change some rules a while back cos of the Way Muralitheran bowled, bent them...
to suit him..
but you cant argue with this ...astonishing....

Yeah, up and over is definitely a technique thing rather than a rule. From what I recall it helps with keeping the seam up and accuracy in general. I always thought Malcolm Marshall's action was textbook upright.

The elbow rules were changed simply because as technology developed it was found pretty much everyone flexed beyond the requirements -- I'm sure it was different degrees depending on whether you bowled spin or fast -- 5 for a spinner and 7 or 10 for a quick bowler, but again I might be off on my numbers.
Murali was an interesting case in that his arm was naturally bent. They even had him bowl with a cast on to test whether he flexed his arm in delivery.
To the letter of the law as was -- 5 degrees flex for a spinner -- Murali could not have ever bowled a legal delivery, simply because his elbow locked out at more than that.

Coming back to Malinga, that slingy technique makes bending the elbow a lot less likely. Which is why a slingshot action is rarely called for chucking.
I quite enjoy watching Malinga, it's just a shame, like Shaun Tait, he's one of these players who has abandoned Test cricket in favour of making an earner in Twenty20 leagues.

Rounding to the nearest whole numbers makes them pointless.

At times in cricket, you have to take stock and play your way in.

At the moment, we are trying to smash every ball out of the ground. Impossible to win the World Cup, playing one way

I think, skittled for under 100

and we will finish 6th (revised)

The way the games have fallen we'll probably need to beat NZ to qualify.

But the way we folded against Malinga was pathetic and our batting isn't as good as they think they are especially without Jason Roy. At the very top level, Vince is out of his depth.

The right choice to put Oz in to bat but the new ball bowlers wasted it although the Aussies rode their luck.

England; best ODI side in the world, highest score ever in an ODI, world cup on home soil, what could go wrong?
Currently sliding towards a 3rd defeat in seven games. Utter bottle job. It's just a shame we can't play Afghanistan every game.
