Tbf, a 90mph ball pitching middle hitting off.

It would have got Smith out.

Cummins is no.1 in the world. That's why.
It was a good ball, I just thought it summed up the failure of Roots captaincy. England have relied on individual brilliance to dig them out of a series long awful team performance.
That awfulness begins and ends with the captain and coach.
The Aussies have been the same, unfortunately for us they've got a couple more good players than we have. This is taking the shine off that world Cup win. I might be in the minority but for me it's Ashes >>> World Cup.
Close but I'm the other.

We'd never won the World Cup before.

Roy now in double figures. Must be enough to cement his place for 2 years.

Cat in hell's chance mate.

Roy did better than I thought but bowled through a gap you could have driven the West Ham team bus through.

Denly sticking to his task though.

Bit harsh to say Roy can’t adapt to test cricket Nev.
He only debuted against Ireland right before the Ashes.
I blame the selectors, not Roy. His time may well yet come.
Mate, there's no hint of what it takes to open in the long form of the game. Was it Boycott who said if the balls not hitting the stumps it shouldn't be hitting the bat?
He just can't stop trying to play his shots and opening is all about restraint, shot selection and patience.
If he was 22 or 23 I might agree that the compulsive shot making might be coached out of him, but he's 29.
Yeah but that restraint is a mental thing that takes some time to ingrain into the mind. The cheat is a master of it although it's not fair to compare everyone to him.
Some adapt faster, some slower, some never. Fuck me, pretty much ALL of our openers have failed miserably at just leaving the ball this series haven't they?

This is a slow long painful death....

Trouble is, some very slight hope is returning... been stuck around the TV all day,and gonna be
a late one still by looks, 36 overs left,3 hours or so..
Would absolutely love to nick a draw now, take it to the Oval, the Aus would be so pissed off..

7 down, no recognised batsmen left. When Jack Leach blocking out the final session is your only hope, you're definitely fucked.
I blame the selectors Overton wasnt a good call up and at the very least Pope should've got a crack in the middle order.

Communism deprives no man of the power to appropriate the products of society; all that it does is to deprive him of the power to subjugate the labour of others by means of such appropriations.

9 now.

Battled hard, I'll give them that and Overton's done well......as a batsman.

But Broad's a walking wicket I'm afraid.

A fellow connoisseur of the great game I see my learned friend. And indeed, the actions of the man sum up Australia perfectly. A bunch of low-lifes descended from the riff-raff we deported. Vagabonds, fraudsters and horse-thieves to a man.

Smith should have been buried up to his head in the Great Victoria Desert so the red ants could teach him a thing or two about sandpaper. But their selectors outrageously go soft on him. It was discussed over brandies at my club last night and should Boris prevail I trust war will be declared and a task force sent up the Murray Darling immediately. I've made my availability known.

Let's not however let our own failings be clouded over. Whoever decided Jason Roy was a test player should be put in stocks outside Lords' for a week so MCC members like myself can hurl rotten vegetables at him, following which he too can get passage on a hulk ship bound for the Indies.

Ruined my weekend.

I'll have to sack a couple of servants to calm down after I've written to the Queen.
