A bit like Jesus then?

It's about a celebration of patriotism, not the origin.
Why not cancel Christmas because of a mythical, fat laplander who sneaks down our chimneys and spoils our kids rotten?
What do you mean mythical 🤷🏻‍♂️😳
🤐. Errrrrr...... sorry.... I meant “rhythmical”.
He’s one smooth, rhythmic fucker is Papa Noel 🕺🏻

Georgia is named after him but no he's proper fucking English ain't he

There's literally hundreds of true English heroes but we get saddled with a Middle Eastern myth.

Christmas predates christianity by thousands of years mate. It's about the days getting longer.

Just another example of that religion stealing from earlier cultures. Same as Easter, same as jesus's life. Same as the old testament.

I don't really have a Danny what you're on about, to be honest

👍😆

It makes me laugh how people get all patriotic about a patron saint who represents England but represented several other countries first. And cities.

Fuck Saint Fucking George, the cunt :D
I quite agree. Clearly the patron Saint of England should be Bobby Moore.
My choice would be Captain Cook but there's fucking shitloads we could choose other than borrowing/ sharing

It had loads of names. It was celebrated all across Europe. The Romans called it Saturnalia. That's where the wreath on the door came from. Germanic people called it Yule. It was about getting through the shortest days of winter.

The evergreen tree is a centrepoint because it doesn't shed its leaves during this time.

Kissing under the mistletoe is the same. It kept its berries throughout winter so kissing under it was symbolic for life. Mistletoe actually means "shit twig" in old English or Celtic as the white berry looks like bird poo.

Early christianity tried to stamp out this winterfest but people carried on so they just said "OK, we'll celebrate the birth of Jesus then" even though he wasn't born then & there's no record of it anywhere.

Everything about Christianity is stolen from other religions/traditions except the name Jesus. But his life is mainly taken from a Greek Demigod, Attis.

Put a Yank ... Flag up and it`s loved by nearly everybody.
Tel. Only going with my gut here, but I’d reckon the Stars and Stripes would be the flag that gets set a light and trodden on more than any other on the planet...
You have a point there Oz,but the majority of Yanks are proud of that flag and they all celebrate on July 4th,where the English do nothing.

You've hit the nail on the head Terry.

July 4th is the birth of their nation. Everyone can relate. If they want to.

St Georges Day is nothing. You can't say it celebrates England as it was others first. It has fuck all to do with England.

We need a day off in the summer (like July 4th) so everyone can bbq & get drunk together :D

Find a date in July or August that is inclusive of everyone rather than some random bloke with no connection to England. Then let's paaaaaaaarrrrrrtttttyyyyy

Gotta love a good tear up
Amazing isn't it. He was popular in Rome when the early Christians started preaching there. After some battles between the two groups they ended up merging the stories.

They've even found statues of Attis there
