VE Day Celebrations

Post by hd1 » Fri May 08, 2020 9:38 am

I don't care that the house looks like a BNP Headquarters today, we will never forget.

All set for a social distanced BBQ and drinks with next door.

Daughters road has a full on socially distanced street party.

What you load of old grump bollox up to?

Have a good day mate....

Not up to much.....just watching stuff on tv...

Usually head down to London for any important celebrations....bit of a pisser......

Side note... it would have been my old mans birthday today.......he's buried in Mevagissy,Cornwall,
despite being a Londoner...it's where he wanted to go...
We always go down to say hello on his birthdays....but....

Down in Langport we've captured a German national who was working as an accountant and he'll be ceremonially stoned at 3pm today on the green outside my house.

Vermin Fawlty. They spread disease.

I’ll be working . The company I “work” for has never been so busy since the lockdown and greed is kicking in.
Bank holidays have been officially cancelled with the generous offer of a day in lieu at a later date .
That’s big of them.
Probably when there’s not so many bored people buying stuff on the internet .

As for VE Day, I’ll never forget my Dads stories about dodging bombs down high street north and running errands for the Wop pow’s at the camp over Beckton.

Even in times of war Entrepreneurs fill their boots .

Have a good day all ;)

My Granddad was a Warrant Officer and a Rear Gunner on the Lancaster Bomber..Unfortunately,he lost his life right near the end of the War in March 1945.

Never forget the sacrifices of those who help give us our freedom today(though not at the moment).

Though I sometimes think, why they ever bothered with some parts of Britain used has a dustbin from other parts of the world. :(

There were still loads of Canadians enlisted in Britain. Plus the Lancaster bomber was built in Ontario and flown to Britain during WW2.

My Old man got evacuated to Cornwall when he was about 4/5...to a Farm, had to work on it
tho,him and his older Bruv had to graft....Plenty of stories of him "getting the cows in" before
going to school and stuff....
Farmer was a bit of a Hardliner....was a tough time for him and Bruv...but he still loved it,a different
world to London at the time....Cows/Sheep/Horses...open countryside...compared to the shit
that was going on in London.
Took me back to the Farm when I was a kid,he used to go back when he could...
Hence why he told me to take his ashes there...we had plans elsewhere, but changed his mind
very last thing.

My Scottish Grandad was CPO in the Royal Navy....Remember a story of him watching a ship go down,
and they were rescuing survivors...you cant imagine what it must have been like....waiting to be
hit next maybe...but like a lot of guys that fought, would never talk much about it..

Lost 2 Great Uncles in France....
