It wasn't amazing, mate. It was because we were giving our wickets away for nothing on decent pitches.Pennywise wrote:
Amazing how the Ozzies managed it though and that's the point. Nobody mentioned cheaply either Nev, just getting them out more often than not.
Fact is, as you said, we were never getting them out cheaply as we didn't have the tools to do it. If the pitch isn't helpful to seam, why on Earth are we picking guys who bowl at 80mph and rely on the pitch??
To win in Oz you need pace mate, it has been forever thus.
Just look at Lyon. No fucking way an offie, even a good one, should've picked up 20+ wickets in that series. In fact there's no way 4 bowlers on the same team should've all got 20+ wickets.
That's not to say our bowlers weren't unfit for purpose, but shit with 550 runs on the board is better than shit with 250 or 300.
We had similar bowlers in 2011. None of Anderson, Tremlett or Bresnan were express pace, but the batters put up huge scores on flat pitches and the Australians crumbled.
Top notch batting is the key in Oz.
