Adventure Playgrounds

Post by Taansend » Fri Oct 19, 2018 4:41 pm

Do they still exist? If they do I'd imagine they'll be nothing like they were back in the 70s & 80s.

I used to go to one near my nans house in Plumstead & another by the Imperial War Museum in Lambeth. They were basically just loads of planks of wood hammered around a tree with a load of very dodgy swings made of old rope.

And there was usually a shitload of dodgy feral looking kids hanging about.

Did you have any round your way as a kid & do kids still use them?

goodpost:)

Love this taarns.

We had one in wokingham behind the old library. It had tracks of some sort, almost like a rollercoaster without a car of any kind. Never could work out what that was.

Loads of ropes and wood as you say.

They shut it down due to accidents and tetanus risks. Must have been about 1981. First time I ever smelt weed

Great memory.....As a kid when we visited my auntie who lived in the Peabody flats just off the Highway we used to play in the one over the back of her flats. It was proper rough, full of estate kids, swinging on ropes with knots bigger than your head, climbing, jumping, fighting! And when it rained everyone piled into the massive Nissan hut they had!

It’s still there 40 years later! Although it’s a fraction of the size it used to be, the rest of the land has had flats built on it or has been turned into allotments!

Health and safety my arse in those days.
If you didn't have some injury or loss of a limb back then, you were considered a bit of a wanker.
