It's not the principle. It's the money.

Joking apart.

I went 2 years ago and stayed on La Rambla. I was in a bar next to the hotel and at about 10pm there was a big ruck going on outside. The barman said it was because a North African chap had been caught trying to steal a handbag and when a couple of locals/tourists intervened, several of his chums came to his aid. He said that it happened all the time and the local Old Bill never do a thing about it.

So be very careful and don't go out, especially at night, with anything valuable on show.

That said, it's a great city.

You're as likely to get mugged/pickpocketed in Barcelona as any other big city. It always about being sensible and not flashing money, jewellery etc.

Sagrada Familia is worth it even if you're not religious.

Take hop on hop off bus https://barcelona.city-tour.com/en/tour ... -barcelona as it's the best way to see all of the City quickly

In terms of food/drink

Full meal or tapas Fragments cafe (lovely little square, but not exactly in the centre, need to book table in advance as it is quite well known between locals)

https://goo.gl/maps/NpEm84FMAZx

Tapas only La Tasqueta de Blai (often quite full, but the food is amazing, not possible to book table, but normally even if full they seat you within 10 min.)

https://goo.gl/maps/WxEbWirBeZq

Tapas and very good wine Bar Bodega Quimet (not possible to book table, best go there around 20:00)

https://goo.gl/maps/p4L52Rmbbq72

Tapas and good wine Tosca del Carme (not possible to book table, best go there around 20:00)

Restaurant for full meal Can Majo (on the beach, so better book a table well in advance, especially for terrace)

https://goo.gl/maps/3UsGzeoBc6o

Drinks only Tinta Roja (very atmospheric Argentinian bar with great Gin&Tonics and quite spectacular original Tango shows)
