Didn't get too see the game yesterday . First one I haven't seen live all season and I was gutted but when I got home last night I watched a recording and to say I was triple delighted is an understatement .

Firstly delighted that we won .
Secondly I'm delighted that Carroll got a nice brace .
And thirdly , I had a little wager before I went out yesterday . Anytime scorecast 3-1 Calleri . £10 @ 55/1

What a great day out that was. Our merry band of 9 arrived in Middlesborough at midday. Its a mixed bag of adults kids and women so as is our usual protocol for away games we visited a local eatery for food and beers. I had a feeling that it was going to a good day when the Louisiana Hot sauce with my chicken and chips left me with a warm feeling in my stomach. To be fair it left a warm feeling about half an hour ago when it was being ejected but thats a different story.

We took convoy of cabs that dropped us of about a five minute walk from the ground. We had previously been told to be careful as Boro were likely to be out for revenge that youtube clip where a lone Boro fan appeared to knock out a small number of West Ham fans when attacked back at the Athletics Gaff in October. Whilst we approached with caution there didn't appear to be too much to worry about before the game and we arrived at our seats without incident.

The game proved to be fine fayre with Carroll having one of those games where he is unplayable. A special mention for Feghouli who I thought had a great first half. Two first half goals from Carroll and a tap in for Stuani when Boro worked well down the right to find themselves overloading West Ham on the back post found the game set up for a great finale.

I think its fair to say that possession and attacking wise Boro had the best of the second half but we defended resolutely. What was impressive was the way that Cresswell even found time to introduce a quick game of crossbar challenge into a what was a tense phase of the game. At the death Calleri put the game out of a sight with a goal on a break which had too all intents and purpose appeared to have broken down until some quick feet and thinking by Lanzini picked out Calleri who finished with a deflection the Pinball Wizard would have been proud of.

At the risk of coveting thy neighbour's ass Traore had a great game for Boro, that kid has got some pace, surely a better future than the Teeside Smog awaits him.

A couple of points on the Riverside Ground, firstly the stand to the left of the away supporters seemed to have really specialist entry criteria. I never been to a ground where they appear to have a whole stand full of crackheads and smackheads who seemed to spend the whole game extending Stretch Armstrong like arms towards the away support beckoning us to come and share their stash. There was even the spectacle of watching one of them knock out a fellow Boro fan immediately after our first goal.

Secondly, I hate grounds like the Riverside. Just when I appear to be coming to terms with my view in the Athletics Gaff I go somewhere like this where you get a fantastic view and I think to myself what I'm missing.

The walk back to the station was on the unpleasant side of unpleasant. A number of small scraps, police wading in to restore peace made for a challenging walk although by eavesdropping the conversation of the Boro fans walking behind me their assessment was that these were Boro on Boro activities, so perhaps we had nothing to worry about.

Eventually after a scrum to get on a woefully inadequate train back to York, followed by a pint in the pub on York Station we finally found ourselves on the train back to London. The two hour journey provided plenty of time to turn the contents of the buffet car into our contents, a short hop out to Essex and we were back home in the Wood for 10 where me and the boy settled down to the usual ritual of falling asleep in front of Match of the Day.

I watched the game again yesterday (on account of a bad back & fuck all else to do) and was so impressed with the industry of the team as a whole. Despite the commentators mistaking Lanzini for Noble & then Cresswell for Lanzini (what do we all look alike?) I was particularly impressed with Lanzini, Antonio & Feghouli. They all ran their tits off in that midfield, stretched Boro's defenders & then provided shape to our defense in our own half.

This is a marked difference from the effort shown at the beginning of the season & with Ayew, Kouyate & hopefully Sahko coming back it leaves me wondering how much we really need in the transfer window?
