What would have spending stupid money on players now achieved for us?
We'll probably finish mid-table, but our chances of 7th are as good as anyone around us who are equally as inconsistent.
We really don't want to be anywhere near Europe next season with the squad we have, we need to rebuild in the summer and ship the deadwood out. Bringing in a load of new players again means it takes time to settle but it needs to be done, but we have a good core of;
Fabianski
Diop
Balbuena
Cresswell
Fredericks
Rice
Noble
Nasri
Anderson
Lanzini
Wilshire
Sanchez
Yarmalenko
Antonio
Snodgrass
Arnautovic
Diangana
We've probably got another year in Zaba too.

Disagree about Europe. If we did manage to qualify, and I agree with your assessment of our 7th place chances, it would help us attract a better level of player imo. It's not the only thing of course but it is bonus. And the early qualifiers might give us the opportunity to look at some of our younger players in a proper competitive environment.hd1 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 01, 2019 8:56 amWhat would have spending stupid money on players now achieved for us?

TRADITION--Just because we've always done it like this doesn't mean it's not incredibly SILLY

Agree with you both here.....don't see how it was poss to bring anyone in on a a big/long
contract till we shift 1or... 6 out...

Me would have been looking poss at a centre back maybe....but that's about it....should have 4 that
can step in and play we've got 3,took rice outta that and didn't replace....mistake we're paying
for now....be hard putting him back in there now.
Without the F.in injuries we have more than enough competition for starts.
In fact it's quite hard putting a side together if we had everyone to pick from.
The Europe thing is our "Next Level"....the best of the rest thing..it's part of breaking thru,
City and Spuds...both had a few years knocking round that last Euro Quali spot....means
a Sunday/Thursday thing,which I hate...bad enough now,but we have to take it.
And it would def help in getting in Players that we want/need...
The Experience of playing Euro football is invaluable, looking at The Tots and City and others
it's hard to begin with and their league form suffered at times....but it certainly paid off..for them.
Geordies and Everton...others have struggled and didn't work out for them ,might have done for
Burnley as well this year...so not easy.
Citehs money didn't hurt either...

should be aiming for.

Probably right that we didn't buy any stopgaps.
An expensive speculation on a Striker might have kept the fans happy, but the current ineffectiveness of our wide attackers and the absence of any of our playmakers makes me doubt whether any front man could make a difference.
A barometer of our progress is Antonio being a regular starter now despite being almost universally written off a season ago....and it's not because of any improvement from him !
