For the first time since the switch over to London Stadium, things are beginning to take shape for the Hammers, and the prospect of what could be is rather exciting to say the least.
We have already made five summer signings so far, with the additions of Fredericks, Fabianski, Diop, Wilshere and Yarmolenko, and Felipe Anderson looks set to become our sixth signing, breaking our transfer record fee.
With all of these signings, it would take us close to £100m spent this summer so far. A new manager is here, a new director of football and a new beginning.
The transition from Upton Park to London Stadium is, for the first time, starting to feel like a transition. The board have finally spent big, and for that, they deserve huge credit.
They may not be everyone’s fan, including myself, but they are, for now, trying to make amends and have dug into their pockets and grabbed more than a penny out!
Felipe Anderson, if the deal goes through, is a remarkable signing for this football club. It is a statement of intent to the rest of the league to show that we are serious with our ambition, and it should not be taken lightly.
Manuel Pellegrini and director of football Mario Husillos have done a fantastic job so far. Every signing is a positive, exciting one, and we are strengthening positions that needed strengthening.
Yarmolenko, our latest signing, said how Pellegrini was a huge factor in his decision to move to West Ham, as did Wilshere, and I am sure the other signings felt the same.
You can watch Yarmolenko’s first interview with West Ham here:
Anderson was highlighted as a key target by Pellegrini, and for the board to deliver (hopefully) on this signing is a positive step in the right direction.
It has been a while since the fans have been this excited ahead of a new season, and we have every reason to be! There is a sense that this is the start of the revolution, a clean start to make history with a new foundation set in place.
The protests last season were certainly justified, and it does look as if they have worked, and finally the board have listened to the fans and taken us seriously.
There is still a long way to go, of course, and this is just the start, but the dream that this club can go places is well and truly underway.
Come. On. You. Irons!
