New Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini has had an excellent first summer window in East London, smashing the West Ham transfer record with the addition of Brazilian attacker, Felipe Anderson from Italian side Lazio for a reported £41,000,000.
In this article, I shall be giving my opinion on where else West Ham need to improve in the rest of this transfer window and who exactly they should sign.
Defence – Diego Reyes (Free agent)
The additions of Issa Diop and Fabián Balbuena in the middle of defence will certainly bolster our options at the back this season, however, in my opinion, we could do with just one more centre back to cope with the strain of injuries throughout the season.
Free agent Diego Reyes would be the perfect fit for West Ham’s backline. At 25, the Mexican international is the ideal age for a move to the Premier League. With years of experience in European competition with Portuguese giants Porto, Reyes certainly has all the tools required to be a good player in the top flight of English football.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Chelsea)
England international Loftus-Cheek had an impressive season in South London with the Eagles last term and will be looking for more first team opportunities this season.
The midfield was a real weakness of West Ham’s last season and Pellegrini will be looking to improve the performance in the middle of the park. Loftus-Cheek, like Wilshere is a fantastic ball carrier who can create attacks out of nothing and play deadly passes in the final third.
Bernard (Free agent)
Following the devastating news of Manuel Lanzini’s injury lay-off, West Ham will be looking to find another creative midfielder to fill the Argentinian’s boots whilst he recovers.
Brazilian attacker Bernard could be the ideal replacement following his contract expiration from Shakhtar Donetsk. The versatile midfielder netted three times in last seasons champions league and is still without a club.
Jay Rodriguez (West Bromwich Albion)
The 28 year-old forward was a standout performer in a poor West Brom side last season. Rodriguez netted ten goals in all competitions last term and with the recent news of yet another Andy Carroll injury, we need a goalscorer.
Rodriguez would be a welcome addition at West Ham and would soon settle into Pellegrini’s side with the hard work he consistently showed in the midlands last season.
