With the recent news that defender Winston Reid will be out for a minimum of three months, we may be looking to sign a replacement, and that could be Alfie Mawson.

The club, yesterday,Ā released a statement, confirming that both Andy Carroll and Reid would be out of action for over three months.

Carrollā€™s injury comes as no surprise to most, but it is not a position we should immediately look to replace. However, Reidā€™s injury needs to be addressed fast, as it is a position we need depth in.

Throughout the years, our luck with injuries has been disastrous to say the least, and our defence has always suffered because of it.

Although the imminent arrival of Brazilian league defender Fabian Balbuena will help that depth, it would still mean that we only have three centre backs, should Manuel Pellegrini choose to play Rice in central midfield.

Others have argued that Reece Oxford could be given a chance, but that would mean Angelo Ogbonna would be our only experienced centre back, which would hinder us greatly.

Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson would be the perfect replacement. He has premier league experience, as well as the quality to accompany it.

You can watch highlights of Swansea City’s defender here:Ā

We have already shown our interest in Mawson and put in a bid worth around Ā£20m, but talks stalled and no real progress was made.

The English defender was keen on a move to West Ham, and still is, but we will have to raise our offer to around Ā£25m if he is to join the Hammers.

Winston Reid has been a loyal servant to this football club, and some fans calling for him to be released is baffling.

Yes, his injury record of recent is not the best, but he doesnā€™t want to be injured! He always gives 110% on the pitch, and despite interest from the likes of Arsenal, he has remained loyal and stayed with us.

Alfie Mawson looks like the perfect replacement to bring in, and although we have spent close to Ā£100m already, this signing is crucial.

It will be interesting to see how this progresses over the next few days and whether we reinstate our interest for the Swansea City defender.

West Ham fan for as long as I can remember. I was flukey enough to watch The Irons beat Bury 10-0 in my first ever game . . . True to form, West Ham then went out and signed their central defender šŸ˜¬
