Jack Wilshere – West Ham Bound?

Jack Wilshere has, this morning, been linked with a move across London to West Ham yet again.

Manuel Pellegrini is keen to make his first signing since his appointment. And Wilshere has been named as one of the Chilean’s targets following previous interest in the player during his time as manager of Man City.

Jack Wilshere has made 197 appearances for Arsenal scoring 14 goals since his debut in 2008. Spending some time on loan at both Bolton and Bournemouth, gives him a career total of 238 games scoring 15 goals. Thus, averaging 24 games a season despite what is felt, by some, to be an injury ravaged career. He also has 34 England caps, scoring twice.

Wilshere is known for his movement, vision, passing and combination play and is also a great leader on the pitch. He has played as an attacking midfielder, winger and central defensive midfielder. It is no secret that West Ham are currently on the lookout for a defensive midfielder and Wilshere could be that player.

It is hoped West Ham may also be his first choice due to his family connections and he has previously praised the club and its fans in a matchday programme for Arsenal.  His wage requests of £34 million for a 4 year contract (approximately £165k per week) may be a stumbling block. Although, with his current contract coming to an end, this leaves the player available on a free transfer.

Arsene Wenger was keen to retain his services at Arsenal with a new contract offer however discussions appear to have stalled since the departure of Wenger.

Everton, Crystal Palace and newly promoted Wolves are all also rumoured to be keeping an eye on his availability. However, West Ham still remain favourites to sign the player with odds available of 2/1 for him to be at the London Stadium when the transfer window closes.
