Argentine maestro Manuel Lanzini has today taken to twitter, stating he is targeting a return for the start of 2019.

Lanzini suffered an injury whilst training with the Argentina squad, and the initial concerns were alarming.

However, contrary to recent reports, the surgery on his knee was successful, and he is hopeful of returning at the start of next year.

Many English media outlets recently stated that Lanzini’s surgery was unsuccessful, but Manu has today tweeted that this was not true. He stated: “Some English media have said that my injury will make me miss next season, that there were problems with the surgery”

“None of this is true. The surgery went really well.”

Argentina have been one of the stand out underperformers so far in this World Cup, and no doubt Lanzini’s injury played a factor.

However, for us West Ham fans, it was not only gutting for Manu as we all wanted to see him shine in the World Cup, but it is also a big blow for us next season. He is an instrumental player to our side and it will be very difficult to find a player to fill that gap.

Many of the reports circling have stated that Manu would be out for over 15 months. However, Lanzini also tweeted his optimism and hopes of returning earlier than many may think. He said: “Although I don’t want to set a date, I expect to be ready to play at the beginning of the 2019”.

This is brilliant news for us Hammers fans. It will feel like, in a way, a new signing come January. We need to continue to sign players this Summer and come January, we can work on getting Lanzini back into the side.

It looks like Manu is dedicated and ready to recover, and I am sure every West Ham fan is wishing him a very speedy and successful recovery.

West Ham fan for as long as I can remember. I was flukey enough to watch The Irons beat Bury 10-0 in my first ever game . . . True to form, West Ham then went out and signed their central defender 😬
