As expected before the match, the key stats of possession and territory were in favour of Man City.
Possession was 69% to Man City and territory may be less than expected at 52%
Other stats were better for us and showed that at least we tried to have a go.
We created 8 chances to Man City 6, total shots were equal at 9 each but we lacked the final quality and only achieved one shot on target.
The corner count was 8-1 in our favour and crosses 13-4 although Man City pass the ball around and into the box rather than put in crosses.
With all that possession, Man City completed 747 of their 839 passes (89%)
We completed 269 of 359 passes (75%) and only had 26% share of total completed passes.
We did slightly better in the attacking third with 34% of the share of passes in the attacking third with 70 completed passes against Man City’s 135.
We had just 7 completed passes in the penalty area compared to 17 from Man City.
Obiang completed the most passes for us with 33 but with a lower 73% completion. But the strange thing within these stats was that his attacking third completion percentage was higher at 81% that the middle third at 64%.
Rice had our highest pass completion at 90%
Antonio pass completion poor at 57%
30% of our total passes being in the attacking third shows the intent we had to try and attack.
With his 13 completed passes in the attacking third, Obiang jointly topped our attacking stats with Anderson. Although Anderson was taken off on 68 minutes.
Rice was also high due to his 11 recoveries.
Antonio created 3 chances and had our only shot on target.
Zabaleta was way in front in terms of defensive stats, including 6 interceptions and 4 tackles.
Balbuena and Diop not as high as normal as Man City don’t put many 50/50 crosses into the box.
Some views on Individual stats
Zabaleta – Excellent defending, top of our defensive stats.
Balbuena – Lower than normal defensive stats due to Man City’s accuracy of passing
Diop – as with Balbuena
Masuaku – Very poor stats in both directions for his 45 minutes.
Obiang – Probably his best stats of the season in attack including 13 completed passes in the attacking third. But mainly in attack/passing, didn’t add much in defensive stats from his midfield position.
Rice – Didn’t show much in the stats apart from our highest pass accuracy.
Diangana – Poor from the youngster, couldn’t get involved. Didn’t complete any of his 4 attempted take on’s.
Antonio – Quite varied stats that often seems to be the case, involved in quite a few of the attacking stats including our only shot on target and creating 3 chances. But very poor pass completion.
Anderson – As always, involved in plenty of our attacking stats including 6 crosses before being taken off at 68 mins.
Arnautovic – Not his best stats, created 2 chances.
Subs
Cresswell (45 mins) – added better stats than Masuaku in both directions.
Chicharito (55 mins) – Got involved within attacks in his 35+ minutes, 8 completed passes in attacking third, created a chance.
Perez (68 mins) – Nothing really to show for his 22+ mins, only 3 completed passes from 6.
