But I’m betting loads of those young players are really happy that they didn’t get involved with clubs like Chelsea .
I’d love to know which really good players out there used their noggin and turned Chelsea down and preferred to go elsewhere.
I doubt we’ll ever know but Chelsea’s youth system ain’t that great . There’s quite a list of terrific players that Chelsea let go and almost certainly wished they hadn’t .
Rice , De Bruyne and Lukaku are 3 that spring to mind .
I’ve said it before , if I was Rice I’d be telling Chelsea to fuck off out of principle .
Lukaku obviously doesn’t share those principles and I doubt Rice does .
But I’d like to think he does.
Lukaku and deBruyne didn't come through Chelsea's academy so I don't think their youth system can be criticised for them being allowed to leave. In any case maybe Lukaku got a kind of smug satisfaction when he turned up at the training ground on his first day after rejoining them. I think Mourinho was the manager there when he was allowed to leave but I'm guessing there might still be one or two coaches left who had input into the decision to let him go.
Chelsea's youth system not that great ? If it's main purpose is to produce players for their first team they can point to the likes of Mount, James, Christensen who are fairly regular starters in a side that won the Champions League FFS. And then there's the players, like Abraham who they've let go for a tidy profit and the ones out on loan like the guy who scored Palace's goals against us and Gilmour out at Norwich who will either be sold for a decent wedge or make their way back to join Chelsea's first team squad.
I bloody well wish we had a production line like that coming through mate.

Absolutely horrendous decision making.

The fact is Chelsea have made mistakes letting certain players leave .
Something West Ham can’t be accused of very often.
