Todd Boehly consortium set to complete deal on Monday.
Not sure it's good for Football or Chelsea. If I was one of their fans,I wouldn't be happy.
For two reasons.
ONE..The yanks buy our clubs to make major profits.I know Whiskyman say that's what it is all about, but I do think overall, the Americans are more excessive about profit. You only have to look at Man U & Arsenal, how they have been run since American owners have come in.
TWO..The more the Yanks take over our Clubs, the more say they can have.I don't want to see our football being sanitised to the way they host their sporting events.
I suppose the good thing for us is that Chelsea will not be the power force they were under Roman Abramovich..Yeah,when they first go in,they'll show they are keen, but 5 years down the line,I doubt if you will see the Russian's success repeated.
The chances of football going in the same direction as the yanks American football are minimal imo. They tried getting permission to to devide the match to 15 minute segments for commercialism when they held the WC and FIFA told them to do one.
Also I think it would really be the death of football, yes, there's the TV and the support could watch it via that, but who wants a break every 15 mins. Those that go to a match, especially long distance would not tolerate an extra hour before they could set off home.
I don't think that idea would fly, and why should it?! They get enough revenue via TV as it is and I don't see them gaining more for commercial breaks. Probably the opposite in the long run.
Having said that, I could be wrong, football is a passion that many find hard to live without, and it's this the business preys on.
