I hear what you are saying, but I think those things are best done behind closed doors. Give the guy an attitude and the price is likely to sink,

As you know, we all take things in a different way, some to heart, some shrug it off and some buck up and show the preverbial finger. Diop was promising at the start but aside from injuries something doesn't click. Maybe he was best suited partnering Ogbonna, and we know his history.
None of us obviously know what goes on behind closed doors. But Diop always seemed to be the fall guy when defensive calamities occurred. For all Dawson's undoubted heart and application he is error prone and imo Diop is a far superior option. But Moyes undoubtedly prefers the "blood and guts" style Dawson brings. That is his prerogative of course as it's his job, not ours, that is on the line.

But from the economic point of view we have turned an expensive acquisition into, in football finance terms, a throwaway in much the same way as happened with Haller.
On that very subject, I would say one of the key tasks of a coaches job is too improve players.

Too many players seem to deteriorate rather than improve. Not all of them but more than seems usual. For some reason they join at one level and leave at another.

And using Diop as a topical example, he would benefit tremendously having a proper coach working with him. That is someone who is a pure footballing man, rather than some cunt who just has a long experience working in the footballing industry. The two are very different animals indeed.

I agree. When Diop first joined he was a revelation. Whatever anyone thinks of him Jose Mourinho is a top coach who has won trophies at every club he has managed, apart from Spurs, and someone who can certainly judge a good player. Mourinho was one of several coaches who mentioned Diop as a very good piece of recruitment by West Ham. But he didn't kick on and, as I say, at least imo, he was often singled out as the player to replace if things went tits up, as they often did back then.

And of course the crowd tended to single out Diop as the fall guy more often than not. Imo he is the only CD capable of actually PLAYING the ball out of defence properly and this is an attribute we are sorely lacking. I wish him well at Fulham.

Absolutely right, we are now left with 2 hoofers, an injured Ogbonna which we don’t know what level he can get back to.

Aguerd who I’ve only seen play once that injured himself tackling a player from his own mistake.

Doesn’t inspire confidence does it?
It’s not what you do it is the way that you do it.

Your right about Mourinho, look past his ego and he has benefited almost all the teams he has managed. Even Man U finished 2nd - fuck knows how he managed that one.

And I could see Diop really blossoming at Fulham. Their style and his attributes should mesh seamlessly. Should he join I would wager his value would inflate quite a bit.

Imo if Man United had persevered with Mourinho and allowed him to get rid of the players who were stirring up the brown stuff they wouldn't be in that same brown stuff now. But that's their problem.

Love him or loathe him Mourinho is a WINNER who, as you say, has improved every team he has been with. And I don't really have a problem with egos, as long as the ego has some substance to back itself with tbh. People who don't have any sort of ego are usually the ones with nothing on their c v to shout about. As Winston Churchill once said about another politician, don't remember who, He is a modest little man with plenty to be modest about. I love that statement tbh.

Of course one way to improve conditions is to maximize your available assets.

So having Ashby as a potentially clever fullback, you could slide Coufal into midfield and use his strengths as a screen in front of the D between mid distance to the half way line.

That gives a snap to midfield and allows Cornet,Bowen,Antonio to become the offensive chargers in the team, with Scamacca as the tip of the spear.

Already that looks promising. D,Ms probably considering how to make this work. Five days on the training pitch and the whole thing comes together. Beautiful

It will b e interesting to see how all their new recruits are gelling. IMO They have invested a whole lot so far this year which could come back and bite them in the arse if they go straight back down. Obviously Lingard only signed a 1 year contract (just in case of relegation) but I think I would be pissed off if I was a player who gained them promotion just to be potentially discarded.
