Just out of curiosity and not wishing to start a ruckus. I’m guessing we’re of a similar generation so I’m wondering what exactly it is you feel we have lost. Things we used to be able to do and can’t any more.
I’ve thought long and hard since last night after reading your question and started making a list believe it or not.

But there’s nothing I can say without making myself sound like a old Skool whingy whining Nazi tbh with you but if you take a gander at most of the serious threads on the other forum you’ll get some idea .

I’ll also throw in a few words/phrases to give you a clue too.

Stephen Lawrence Day
Lee Rigby statue

Blind eye turned to Muslim child rape gangs

George Floyd

The welcome mat at Dover

The denial of the GOOD things the British Empire did .

Woke

British Politicians

Being told what to think and say .

One rule for the indigenous British people
No rules for the rest of the population.

And that’s just for starters
Really truly understandable points mate..fully on board...Politicians tho we have good well meaning ones on all sides...
Problem is they are limited in what they can say and do because of some of the points you mention...
Watched Blair on TV yesterday, have not a lot of time for the bloke...but first Politician I've heard say....I can't say what I
want because it will be interpreted the wrong way..you guys the media and others will spin it to suit....
anyway you guys..Press/Media are more concerned with my haircut than what I'm saying....

Anyone that is perceived to be on the Right of politics...has to keep mouths firmly shut...Left can speak out,cos they
are perceived to represent the Woke Bods you refer to, who are very much in the minority...but the public are getting it,
hence the move away from socialism in our voting, in a word people don't like whats going on,and not just the economy,
jobs,pay...etc. the Social aspect side as well..there's hope.
But it's hard for a government any government to control social thinking, thats down to the public themselves.

Stuff you mention is worldwide social problems and changes we are going thru, not just a UK Problem...
We Are clinging on to free speech as well as anywhere..

Thing is 95% maybe more of us in the UK across all colours religions,creeds,whatever...are decent honest and fair minded...
can't let the tiny percentage of arseholes dictate and win..they don't and wont.

But fuckin frustrating times ..no doubt..

An impressive list. But my question was "What did we used to be able to do that we can't do now".

Do I celebrate Stephen Lawrence day ? No. Although as I sispect yoyu do I think it is appalling his killers have never been brought to justice. At least I don't think they have. But if some people want to celebrate SL day it doesn't affect me.

Do I take the knee for George Floyd ? No I don't. But if others want to, so what ?

Do I embrace the principles of the "Woke" (silly fucking word imo) brigade.? No I don't. Lots of people believe in things I don't but as long as they don't try ramming their thoughts down my throat they don't worry me.

Who tells me what to think or say ? There have always been people who try to persuade those of us with views different to them to change our opinions. Do we have to do so ? No we don't. It is a free country and, within reason, we can say and think what we like. I say within reason because I am sure most sensible people would be up in arms if it was allowed for people to suggest it was OK to kill muslims or that Hitler was right all along about the Jews.

Personally I don't think I've got any fewer rights and freedoms now, as an old fart, than I had when I was entering adulthood nearly 50 years ago.

You have answered your own question perfectly without even knowing Whiskyman.

Yep..You have a mind of your own.

Unfortunately, not all have and are brainwashed by the media.Has you say most of this crap has all come from the left side and that`s why the tories are winning hands down.It don`t matter how bad the tories are doing, the electorate won't vote in the opposition, because they will take everything we stand for away. This last year(Floyd, statues etc) has destroyed any kind of hope of them forming a government and that`s coming from a person who was labour through and through and detested everything the tories stood for.

When the left-wing biased tv companies televise the funeral of a drug addict violent thug in a country over 3000 miles away yet the funeral of Dame Vera Lynn in the same year gets scant mention, it sums up for me what's wrong with this country.

The 'woke' culture pervading media, mostly Labour supporting, from their city bubbles don't have a clue about the issues that the average man in the street worries about. Sorry. Woman too. And non-binary gender fluid person. But sadly for them the racist knuckle-dragging idiots who voted for Brexit can afford televisions so it's worked against them and they can see for themselves the kind of shit that Labour stand for.

Firstly , 2 people were convicted of Lawrence’s murder in 2012. But that’s neither here nor there .

So you are happy living in a country that created a Remembrance Day for an alleged drug dealer , albeit at the hands of other alleged drug dealers whilst at the same time refusing to sanction a remembrance statue of Corporal Lee Rigby who was brutally murdered by 2 wanna be Muslim terrorists ?

You’re happy living in a country that turns a blind eye to organised gangs grooming and raping under age schoolgirls purely because it doesn’t want to upset the local Muslim population?

You’re not bothered by the “woke” culture or the worship of the dead American career criminal because it doesn’t affect you , even though it’s rammed down the throats of everybody else by the press and general media telling everybody what they should be doing thinking and saying ?

And you’re also quite happy to live in a country that turns a blind eye to hundreds of illegal immigrants that turn up on our beaches every week , houses and feeds them whilst Many British citizens live below the poverty line and many of our veteran members of the armed forces are in need of the same and are left to rot because they might have shot the odd fuzzy wuzzy back in the day.

That’s all fine because it doesn’t affect you .

You worked hard all your life , made your money and are now retired .
You may or may not be living a life of luxury , I don’t know but you’ve earned it mate and good luck to you .

But that must be some bubble you are living in in Hertfordshire, where as long as it doesn’t affect you directly everything’s right with the world .

As for your question , which wasn’t really much to do with what I was saying originally (imo) ?

I can do whatever I like wherever I like and say what I like to whom ever I wish just as I could when I was a teenager.

Difference is , nowadays I’d be frowned upon , ostracised and , where I live anyway , probably dead within the week .

Yes mate this country has changed and not for the better.

And what makes it worse is that it’s our own kind both changing it and pressurising everybody else to accept it when we should all be protecting each other and what’s left of what used to be a great nation.

I agree with the Majority of what you say Mr N,we can't or shouldn't hide from what you say...but will reiterate that
lots of the stuff you say are worldwide problems not just ours.....Europe and the States Particularly have similar shit to deal
with ...Aus and Kiwis maybe not so much but they have their own things culturally to deal with...China have huge probs
with freedom...Middle east is in Turmoil....Africas Africa... runs on corruption..as does most of South America, where the
drug barons etc control the Governments....India...talk about one rule for rich one for poor..check that place out,it's disgraceful.
It aint just the UK with Struggles socially.

I see a country that is full of kind caring compassionate generous people...people in all sorts of circumstances as well..
From Social workers to Carers..our amazing staff in the NHS,Police that have to put up with serious crap..right thru to
the general public, Bin Men to Supermarket workers...every walk of life..people caring and helping each other.
The money we raise for people in need....Captain Tom to Children in need.. its staggering.

Where you live can have bearing on your opinions..absolutely....but like to think I've seen all sides, and always try
and see the bigger picture..Try....

We mustn't let a very tiny percentage of arseholes and no nothing dickheads..ruin things for the huge vast majority
of people in our Country.

So MK.. Has 2 Constituency seats both Tory....

Tories win The Council election with 45% of vote and 24 wards against 19 Lab and 13 Libs..
Libs approach Tories if you want us on board, we want this we want that etc.....Tories go ..Fuck off you idiots....
So they sneak of tail between their legs and hook up with Labour.....

That's how your local councils work....
