Newmarket wrote: Tue Mar 28, 2023 11:34 pm Myself , Carp fisherman . Got back into it last year and I have to admit I’d rather spend a weekend on the bank in the countryside plotting the downfall of a fish than an afternoon at the shite bowl regardless of whether West Ham win or lose.
Carp is considered a pest over here. Not allowed to throw them back. We are supposed to take them at least 20m from the water, dig a hole and bury them.
Actually there is an increasing trend towards a catch & release policy in Aus Oz
At least if you believe the Australian sections of the Carp Forums .
Just like in the US many Aussies , obviously influenced by ex-pat Poms are actually targeting Carp .

Yeah, but not for fish that are declared as invasive... And European carp top that list. There are shitloads of 'Annual Carp Hunts' in Australian freshwater rivers in an effort to reduce their numbers. It's illegal to release them...

Absolutely agree. The worst thing is that they eat the eggs of the more desirable species, so they are wiping them out as well.

Story down here is that "wogs" brought the carp here when building the hydro dams. Carp are notorious for undermining the river banks and that destroys the eggs from other fish.

Disclaimer!! Aussies called the Italians, Greeks and anyone else from Europe, not the poms, wogs.
When I got here and my Italian neighbour signed me up to play 'soccer' the Aussie neighbours said I was playing wogball :D :D

PS. Disclaimer is for the poms Oz, not you. :)

I used to go clubbing.
Had some marvellous times, but the seals weren't to happy about it.
Love a cup of Rosey I do.
