The David Moyes era starts at Vicarage Road on Sunday, with the Scotsman keen to instil a higher work rate and more endeavour amongst his new players that was so lacking under Slaven Bilic. 

He will come up against a Watford side led by the in-demand Marco Silva who had started the season well but have suffered a slump in form of late having lost their last three games- including a 3-2 defeat against struggling Everton last time out.

THE PREVIEW

Both sides have just one win apiece in their last six matches so neither are heading into this clash in top form. The same could be said about the Hornets home record this season which has seen just one win from their first five games (2D, 2L) which should give Moyes’ men some much needed confidence heading to Hertfordshire, however without a win away from the London Stadium so far in 6 attempts (3D, 3L) it is not the sort of form pointing at a Hammers win on Sunday afternoon.

THE MARKETS

So what does this all point to then? I’d say given Moyes penchant to preferring pragmatism and organisation over all out flair and expansive football; the boost that comes with a new manager and Watford’s style of counterattack which is best suited away from home – the draw looks the most likely of results in this one, priced at 12/5 with Betway.

Another market that could be worth a dabble in is the draw and under 2.5 goals which is priced at 16/5. Those of us who fancy something more risky then look no further than a potential scorecast of Andy Carroll to score 1st and 1-1 which is price at 25/1.

Now bear with me, Carroll has not scored this season yet and has not looked likely either but Watford have conceded the highest amount of headed goal attempts this season, which plays into the big number 9’s hand nicely. As will the likelihood that Moyes sets his side up to play to the strikers strengths, he had already referenced putting in lots of “crosses” all of which should lead to some chances for Carroll.

Finally, if you think it’s curtains for Moyes in his first game in charge you can have Watford to win 2-0 at 9/1.

Whatever happens on Sunday it is likely to be a tight game with little between the sides and could well be decided by the odd goal but the draw does indeed look the likeliest of outcomes.
