Paqueta makes Hammers tick in a most Di Canio like fashion by Gonzo

Lucas Paqueta, despite his undeniable brilliance on the football pitch, often displays petulant behaviour that can be likened to that spoilt brat. Instances during the West Ham versus Olympiacos and Everton games showcased his tendency to throw tantrums, a quality that makes me cringe in opposition players.

Paqueta’s on-field antics include attempts to deceive the referee through diving, petulance, backchat, and feigned injuries. His theatrical falls are executed in a manner that, if performed by players from other teams, would elicit open laughter from myself.

Recalling past incidents involving players like Chico Flores and Rivaldo, who similarly engaged in theatrical displays, it becomes evident that Paqueta’s behaviour can be grating, even if he is a player for our beloved West Ham. All to frequently the player can be seen thumping the ground whilst the opposition spring a counter attack.

During Thursdays West Ham v Olympiacos game at the London Stadium, Paqueta exhibited both terrible and brilliant moments. The first half saw him dictating play, displaying outstanding passing and awareness. However, the second half portrayed a different picture, with Paqueta making poor decisions, giving the ball away, and generally losing his mind.

Yet for all of his faults, Paqueta is an utterly brilliant footballer. Despite a horrendous second half performance he was still able to produce a match winning moment. I am finding myself having to reconcile the world class element with the fact that he’s a bit of a diver. Because ultimately, The Paq Man is going to be central to whatever West Ham go on to achieve this season.

He’s not the first flawed genius to grace the claret & blue and I doubt he’ll be the last.

West Ham fan for as long as I can remember. I was flukey enough to watch The Irons beat Bury 10-0 in my first ever game . . . True to form, West Ham then went out and signed their central defender 😬
