However, that wasn’t the case…

he hammers were ultimately outplayed by the hosts as it was yet another defeat, their third consecutive after crashing out of the FA Cup on Saturday to AFC Wimbledon.

Wolves dominated the game from start to finish, grabbing themselves three second half goals courteous of Moroccan international Saiss and a six minute double from on-loan Benfica forward, Jimenez.

Despite their impressive display, it was West Ham’s lacklustre performance that raised eyebrows as they dropped to eleventh place in the Premier League.

Marko Arnautovic returned to the starting line-up following recent transfer speculation, yet it proved a painful evening for the 29-year-old who was near anonymous throughout and would later be forced off with a foot injury during the second half.

Without some impressive saves from Lukasz Fabianski, things may have been a lot worse for the irons who didn’t managed a single shot on target all evening.

Monday 4 February will see West Ham host league leaders, Liverpool where Pellegrini will hope to see some sort of reaction from his players.
