A deal for 25-year-old forward Bernard looked to be dead in the water, but West Ham could surprise a few and are hopeful of reviving a deal for the Brazilian.

West Ham first registered their interest around a month ago, but being a free agent, Bernard was holding out for a ā€˜bigger moveā€™.

However, the clock is ticking, and the forward is still without a club; now a move to London is suddenly much more appealing.

The ever reliable ExWHUemployee said: ā€œIt appears we do fancy Bernard again.

ā€œHe hasnā€™t had the big money move offers he had expected and is now considering a move here.

ā€œHe would be the ā€˜back upā€™ forward and ā€˜bargainā€™ that I said we were looking for!ā€

You can watch highlights of Bernard and what he would bring to West Ham here.

This would be an excellent signing if we pull it off, but due to him being on large wages, the Brazilian would have to be willing to take a pay cut to join.

There is no denying the talent Bernard has. He is typically a tricky winger with pace, making it a nightmare for defenders to play against him.

For an option to bring off the bench, it is certainly worth taking a punt on the Brazilian, especially if it is a free transfer.

If we want to compete throughout the entirety of the season, while also performing in cup competitions, we are going to need squad depth.

It is something we have always lacked, and a couple of injuries usually throw us off the boil.

However, if we are looking at players of Bernardā€™s calibre to be a ā€˜back upā€™, then it certainly looks good for the future.

It will be interesting to see how this develops with just six days of the transfer window remaining, but I am hopeful that we will still see a couple new faces in a claret and blue shirt come Thursday.

West Ham fan for as long as I can remember. I was flukey enough to watch The Irons beat Bury 10-0 in my first ever game . . . True to form, West Ham then went out and signed their central defender šŸ˜¬
