Liverpool Vs West HamLiverpool Vs West Ham

Before someone says it – The only stat that matters is the scoreline but can we read anything into the match stats.

As expected Liverpool dominated possession and territory. However this is not an indicator to whether we can win a game with our counter attacking style under Moyes

Completed Passes

Liverpool completed 609 of their 712 passes (72%) against 232 by West Ham (28%).

Similar to possession, not our worse stat when compare to previous games and not generally a big influence on the result with our style of play. How effective our passes are in the final third being a bigger influence on a winning performance.

Liverpool’s domination contiued in the attacking third with 184 completed passes against our 52

In the Penalty area Liverpool completed 22 of their 24 passes, we achieved just 5 completed passes.

West Ham Individual Passes – Complete/Total

Noble completed the most passes for us with 36 from his 46 (78%). His partner in central midfield Kouyate achieved just 16 passes from 26 (62%). Lanzini total passes were lower than normal even taking into account him being substituted on 58 mins. Probably showing he wasnt ready for a return although he still showed the highest completion rate for passes.

Attacking Stats

A very disappointing stat was that we only managed 4 crosses in the whole game with only 1 cross coming from our wing backs. Were they just pushed back by Liverpools attacking play or was this part of the plan? But for me if we play wing backs then they need to influence our attacking play.

Following on from the crosses and passes in the final third, we achieved just 4 shots on target. 2 of which was from Arnautovic.

West Ham – Individual Defensive Stats

James Collins was our best defender in terms of 4 key stats including 11 clearances. Zabaleta added more in defensive situations than attacking. Noble was poor in terms of tackles from the central midfield. Kouyate improved on his passing stats but the tackling stats were poor helping Liverpool complete passes.
