West Ham have been handed a boost with their chances of signing West Brom striker Salomon Rondon this transfer window.

The Venezuelan had a close relationship with Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez following his loan spell last season.

Rondon spoke highly of Benitez and wanted to join Newcastle permanently this season, but only if Benitez was in charge.

However, the Spanish manager failed to agree terms of a new contract and is set to leave Newcastle at the end of this month.

This has given the Hammers a boost in their chances of signing Rondon, and in a couple of weeks they are set to step up their negotiations for the striker in an attempt to lure him to east London.

With Javier Hernandez announcing he wants to leave and Andy Carroll and Lucas Perez having already departed, West Ham are interested in bringing two strikers to the club next season, with Maxi Gomez the main target and Rondon the next.

Once the Copa America concludes in a couple of weeks, you can expect to see some movement in this deal, whether that be positive or negative for the Hammers.

West Ham fan for as long as I can remember. I was flukey enough to watch The Irons beat Bury 10-0 in my first ever game . . . True to form, West Ham then went out and signed their central defender 😬
