Currently our vice-captain Winston Reid, has been ruled out with a horrific knee injury and could be injured for up to nine months.

So that gives us the question of. Who should be the new vice-captain?

Winston Reid has been our vice-captain, since Mark Noble got moved up in the 2015/2016 season. Reid captained West Ham a total of eight time’s last campaign.

So with Reid being injured, it’s time to find a new vice-captain. In my opinion there is 3 main options

Starting off with new signing Jack Wilshere. The 26 year old joined the Hammers on the 9th July, and is looking to gain his first start in a claret and blue shirt against Preston next Saturday. The new number 19 was a West Ham fan growing up and said he idolised John Moncur and Paulo Di Canio. He knows the clubs history and what it means to be a west ham fan.

Next up is young 19 year old, Declan Rice. If you’re a fan of my YouTube channel (LiammmX) you know
how much I brag on and how much I love this guy. He has so much talent for a player of his age, and could easily be our next club captain. Declan was the captain of the PL2 side and he led them to a promotion, so why can’t he do it on the big stage? Rice has a lot of passion and absolutely loves the club, he is young, but I think he has the confidence and maturity to captain the side.

Lastly, is Pablo Zabaleta. Zaba led us out against Manchester City where we got unlucky and lost 2-1. But he showed some incredible responsibilities in that game and was fantastic marking the tricky Leroy Sane. The 34 year old Argentine is the most experienced player at the club, and has been playing at the top level for 10 years. Even though we may not see him in the side as much next season because of new arrival Ryan Fredericks. But is Zaba the man for the role?
