Some views on individual player stats

Fredericks – Struggled in an attacking role – only completed the 26 passes from 41 and put just 2 crosses in.

Cresswell – Stats better than i thought at the game – 39 completed passes from 47. He put in 7 crosses although only 1 found a West Ham player but i’m not sure that can totally be put down to Cresswell as it was obvious that we didn’t get players into the box when attacking.

Balbuena – Good stats again. I feel he will be the type of player that does a solid job without getting the limelight. Reminds me of Tony Gale, going back a few years. 7 clearances, 6 completed tackles, 4 interceptions and 2 blocks put him at the top of defensive stats.

Diop – Good solid performance with good defensive stats. also good on the ball with a 86% pass completion.

Sanchez – Will be remembered for the mistake that led to the goal. Why were we playing it short in the last minute?  Apart from that, took on the Mark Noble role of highest number of passes by being available to receive a pass from the defence. But other stats were not as good, only 1 tackle and no interceptions for a holding midfielder.

Wilshere – Felt like a neutral performance at the game and stats didn’t really show any massive contribution either way.

Snodgrass – Taken off at half time, with just 7 completed passes from 10 and 1 cross. Not in the game.

Antonio – Stayed on to the 75th minute but again didn’t feel like he was in the game. 11 passes from 17 completed (64%) For a player with pace only 1 take succesful out of 5 attempted and 1 cross put in.

Anderson – A different position for each half which i don’t understand. Our 2nd highest completed passes although many were one touch short passes. He completed 11 from 17 passes in the attacking third but only 1 was in the penalty area.

Arnautovic – Although putting in plenty of effort closing down their defence, nothing really showed in key stats, 4 passes completed in the final third, 3 take ons and the 1 shot on target.

Yarmolenko (Sub)- On at half time for Snodgrass. He played 2 roles, firstly as the number 10 centrally and then wider right. Completed 9 passes in the final third and was quite high on the attacking stats above players involved for longer.

West Ham fan for as long as I can remember. I was flukey enough to watch The Irons beat Bury 10-0 in my first ever game . . . True to form, West Ham then went out and signed their central defender 😬
